                                    Second Annual Cathlamet Downhill Corral
                                                                Longboard Race

The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is proud to be hosting the Second Annual Cahtlamet Downhill Corral.  This international sanctioned longboard race will be bringing 100 racers, plus family and friends to Cathlamet for this exciting three day event.

A quote from Concrete Wave magqazine, winter 2010. “Cheers to Judy and all the organizers that put on that event!  Starting a new event is a challenge for even the most experienced crew, but to start one based on the dream of your 14-year old son . . . that  has a special bit of heart in it!”

Kicking  off the event Friday, August 27, at Main Street and Broadway at 5:00 P.M. with a Slide Competition.  And at  approx. 6:00 P.M. the Tight Slalom will start at Broadway and River Street. 

 Two Push Races on Saturday, August 28  on Puget Island with a breakfast hosted by Stockhouse’s Farm for the Push Racers and staff at 8:30 A.M., with the races starting at 10A.M.One course will be 7.5mile and the other 15 mile, both with cash prizes for the winners.  After lunch, the races move to the Mystery Slalom at the intersection of Hwy 4 and River Street, right by PJ’s  Restaurant. 

Following the races you won’t want to miss the live band playing for your entertainment at the marina.

The premier event, The Downhill Race on Sunday, with the riders meeting at 9:00 A.M. and the race beginning at 10:00A.M.  Rob McKendry III will be announcing again this year with the racers starting at Wahkiakum High School, on a course running through town laced with straw bales and ending off Broadway and Commercial.   Some of the returning racers are Billy “Bones” Meiners, Casey Morrow, Eric Hovey, Graeme Hystad, Liam Kearney, Lee Cation and Robin McGuirk.

Cash Prizes will be awarded to the winners.  Vendors will line River Street.  Proceeds from the race will go towards a skate park located at Erickson Park in Cathlamet.  Benefiting the youth of Cathlamet and surrounding towns.

BALD EAGLE DAYS AND WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL

Saluting Heroes and Volunteers

The 29th Annual Bald Eagle Days will begin on Friday, July 16th with a special “Two Islands Farm Market” beginning at 3:00 P.M.  Saturday will bring the Bald Eagle Day parade at 11:00 A.M. 

Scott Johnson, from Naselle and member of our SW District Washington State Patrol will be the Grand Marshal.  Additional honorees will follow Scott representing veterans, first responders and community volunteers.  The street festival, featuring many vendors and terrific food, will also feature several bands on Main Street, the Kids Area, the Fire Department Water Fight and the Community Network is sponsoring a Dunk Tank.  Later Saturday, the Elochoman Marina is the location for the Chamber Beer Garden, musical entertainment and the best fireworks show on the Columbia River.

Friday, beginning at 3:00 P.M., the Cheif  Wahkiakum Trolley will bring visitors to the market from the Marina and downtown areas.  There will be great produce and fuits, atrisan beads and pastries, old world sausages, goat, lamb, beef and chicken by the cut, fresh cut flowers, along with music and hot food to make your afternoon wonderful. 

On Main Street in front of Ace Hardware, the Sidewalk Art Contest will showcase young and adult artists from 3:30 to 5:30.  A panel of judges will review these sidewalk creations and prizes will be awarded.

Saturday promises to bring all the fun of the parade and street fair, along with Chamber Buffalo Burgers, Sharon’s Pizza and PJ’s, as well as outside seating at the Riverview.  The Cathlamet Market will have a bar-b-q.  We expect to have more music on Main Street this year.  The Kids Area will feature dunk tank, games and a great new slide with a bounce house as well as a rock wall.

Sunday’s Wooden Boat Festival will begin at 10:00 A.M. and run until 2:00 P.M.  This year will feature food by Two Islands Farm Market, FFA BBQ and Bottoms Up.  Look for wonderful wooden boats.  Raffle tickets for
Mike Baccelliere’s, hand-made, wooden boat will be on sale (note: the final drawing will be Labor Day).  There will also be a Coast Guard rescue demonstration.  As usual, there will be free games for kids and kids who come dressed as sailors or pirates will also get rewards.  Call Paula at the Marina (360) 795-3501.

Bald Eagle Day parade and vendor applications are available at the Chamber Office.  Also, the Chamber needs some extra volunteers to help on Friday and Saturday.  If you can offer a couple of hours or more,  please call the Chamber Offrice at (360) 795-9996 and talk to Lynda Gerlach, the Chamber Coordinator.  She can also answer any questions you have about Bald Eagle Days.

Julia Butler Hansen Pool

The Town of Cathlamet and the Julia Butler Hansen Municipal Pool will host free swims most Saturdays*  between now and the end of August, from 12:45 – 2:15 PM

Pool Season begins June 15th!
For west-enders, Wahkiakum on the Move is offering Free Bus Service.  It rolls from Rosburg School at noon, then stops at Gray’s River Cafe’ (12:15) and the Skamokawa Post Office (12:25) en route to the Coolest Pool in Wahkiakum.  Return service commences shortly after the session.
